What Is an Entree?
An entrée is the main dish of a meal, otherwise known as the main course which arrives after the starter.
- In many cases, the RSVP card will list two or three entrée choices and guests will select their preferred meal.
- Entrée comes from a word meaning “entrance.” In the 16th century, the first dish at a fancy dinner was brought in by a procession of servants to the sound of trumpet fanfares.
- This first course was termed the entrée de table.
